KAWAG DANUM RAINFOREST LODGE or KDRL is located in Kawag Forest of Ulu Segama Malua Forest Reserve, near the USM-SFMP main office in Lahad Datu District of Sabah. It was developed by the Sabah Forestry Department funded under the Tenth Malaysia Plan through the Ministry of Tourism.
KDRL, as an ecotourism destination, is managed by Borneo Refugia Sdn Bhd a Wholly-Owned Company of Yayasan Sabah.
Situated in a lowland dipterocarp forest inside the buffer zone of the world famous Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA) and is part of the wildlife corridor that links DVCA with Maliau Basin Conservation Area and the Darvel Bay. KDRL offer outstandingly rich in biodiversity and wildlife. Based on Birds Survey 2015 and Kawag Forest Scientific Exploration 2016, there are over 100 species of birds found in Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge vicinity.
The aim of this Lodge is to offer domestic and international visitors to experience living in the tranquility of forest nature and to sight wildlife.
